Job Summary:

Under the direction of the Quality Assurance Manager and Quality Assurance Engineers, the Quality Assurance Engineer Assistant assists in the development, implementation, and coordination of functions for the Corporate Quality Assurance Department, Quality Assurance Program, Corporate Customer Feedback system, and the ISO-9001 Program.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assists with the development and administration of quality assurance/control systems in conjunction with the Quality Assurance Manager.
  • Performs analysis of testing and inspection procedures to ensure adequacy and compliance.
  • Diagnoses and corrects improper quality control practices using metrology and statistical methods.
  • Conducts capability studies on new or modified products and processes.
  • Audits internal quality systems for deficiencies.
  • Reviews engineering drawings and specifications to ensure the measurability of key features.
  • Reviews tolerances of key features to ensure manufacturability.
  • Defines measurement methods at plants and suppliers to establish consistency of measurement.
  • Develops new testing/inspection techniques, fixtures, and gauges as required.
  • Develops Inspection Plans (IPs) and Inspection Test Plans (ITPs) in conjunction with plant Quality Assurance personnel.
  • Performs inspections and evaluates finished products, purchased products, and raw materials using established specifications.
  • Assists Quality Engineers on priority projects and Global Operating System (GOS) initiatives.
  • Utilizes physical, mechanical, and electrical testing procedures and inspection equipment to perform routine tasks in the Quality/Materials Lab.
  • Helps interpret engineering recommendations, customer specifications, and engineering drawings for suppliers and PLP facilities.
  • Conducts source inspection of suppliers and conducts supplier Quality System audits.
  • Works with key suppliers to implement required improvements.
  • Helps in handling field complaints and product failures.
  • Helps analyze problems, solutions, or recommendations after proper engineering and laboratory studies.
  • Helps determine causes of material failures.

Requirements:

  • Completed or pursuing a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical, Industrial Engineering, or Quality Management curriculum preferred.
  • Zero to three years of experience in a quality assurance and/or manufacturing environment, emphasizing measurement, testing, documentation, and ISO 9001 exposure.
  • Computer proficiency required (Microsoft Suite applications).
  • Experience with MiniTab or other statistical analysis software packages preferred.
  • Interpersonal and communication skills are desired.
  • Capable of report formatting and technical writing.
  • Operating general metrology equipment.
