Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Surgical Assistant to join our team at Henry Ford Health System. The successful candidate will provide support to surgeons and medical staff during surgical procedures, ensuring a safe and efficient operating room environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist surgeons and medical staff during surgical procedures, including preparing and maintaining sterile equipment and supplies.
  • Provide support to the surgical team, including retracting tissues, maintaining a clear surgical field, and assisting with hemostasis and dissection.
  • Prepare and set up cases, including preparing sterile supplies and equipment.
  • Participate in education programs and continuing education seminars to maintain certification and current knowledge in the field.
  • Perform other related duties as requested by authorized personnel.
Requirements
  • Five (5) years of current operating room scrub and/or assisting experience.
  • Certified BLS Provider specializing in Basic Life Support credentialed from the American Heart Association (AHA) obtained within 6 Months (180 days) of hire date or job transfer date required.
  • Certified First Surgical Assistant credentialed from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) preferred.
  • Completion of a recognized scrub technician college program preferred.
Working Conditions

The work setting is a surgical suite, and the individual may be exposed to patient illness, communicable diseases, blood and body fluid hazards, and hazardous chemicals.

Orientation Requirements
  • Must attend new employee orientation and department orientation.
