About the Role

We are seeking a highly experienced Intelligent Property Attorney to join our team at Argonne National Laboratory. As a key member of our Legal Department, you will provide strategic guidance on intellectual property protection and prosecution, collaborating with scientists, engineers, and other stakeholders to advance our mission.

Key Responsibilities
  • Advise ANL management and staff on intellectual property matters, working closely with DOE attorneys, other ANL attorneys, and Science & Technology Partnerships and Outreach personnel
  • Identify, report, and protect intellectual property developed at Argonne, including patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets
  • Evaluate new inventions and software for patentability, commercial potential, and programmatic value, making recommendations for patent applications and prosecutions when in the best interests of the lab
  • Develop Laboratory policies, procedures, and initiatives related to intellectual property, educating and training ANL personnel on identifying and protecting IP
  • Conduct patent searches to assist in evaluating reported inventions and ensure prime contract requirements are met vis-a-vis intellectual property
Requirements
  • Law Degree from an ABA-accredited law school
  • Admitted to practice law in the State of Illinois or eligible for a limited practice license in Illinois as in-house counsel
  • At least ten (10) years of relevant experience as an intellectual property attorney, with experience specific to patents, copyrights, and trademarks
  • Registration as a Patent Attorney with the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office
  • Demonstrated oral, written, interpersonal communication, and negotiation skills
Salary and Benefits

The estimated salary for this position is between $160,000 - $200,000 per annum, depending on qualifications and experience. We also offer a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, 401(k), and paid time off.
