CNC Machine Operator Job Description

We are seeking a skilled CNC Machine Operator to join our team at TriMas Corporation. As a CNC Machine Operator, you will be responsible for setting up and operating computerized numerically controlled machine tools to perform a series of machine operations on blind fastener components.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Set up CNC machines making required adjustments to tooling, collets, etc.
  • Run machines with chucker automatic load systems.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve various problems related to the set-up and operation of tooling, work holding, etc. of an auto loading CNC machine tool.
  • Read and interpret drawings, programs, and other documentation to visualize machining required and sequence of operations.
  • Makes input to CNC consistent with set up procedure.
  • Fills out Setup Card for preset or setup of tools to be used in operation of CNC machine.
  • Performs dry run to verify setup prior to production run.
  • Recognizes and reports errors in programming and operations.
  • Collaborates with appropriate personnel in correcting errors.
  • Provides necessary counts, processes documentation correctly, and maintains daily production logs or production worksheets.
  • Utilizes SPC techniques and methods to ensure workflow efficiency.
  • Maintains SYMIX database accuracy by recording work progress in a timely and efficient manner.
Requirements:
  • Requires 3-5 years work experience or equivalent skills and knowledge expertise in the set-up and operation of Computerized Numerical Control machines, tools, and equipment.
  • Must have demonstrated the capability to set-up and operate the CNC machines required to the level of journeyman.
  • Must be familiar with and capable of using Statistical Process Control.
  • Must read precision measuring instruments such as comparators, indicator, calipers, and micrometers.
Work Environment:

The work environment is in a machine shop environment where noise, temperature fluctuations, the repetitive nature of the job, etc. are less desirable than a typical office environment.

Effort:
  • Able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Requires strength to install and adjust tooling and equipment to setup specifications.
  • Hand and finger manipulation required for machine setup and operations as well as using precision measuring instruments.
  • Most job assignments require continuous standing and/or walking for extended periods.
