Job Summary:

As a Medical Laboratory Specialist at Kent Hospital, you will play a critical role in the detection, diagnosis, and treatment of various medical conditions. Your expertise will be essential in analyzing, evaluating, and interpreting specimens to ensure accurate results.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform qualitative and quantitative analysis of patient specimens according to established procedures and protocols.
  • Collect and handle specimens with precision and attention to detail.
  • Operate complex biomedical electronic instrumentation, including calibration, maintenance, quality assurance, and troubleshooting.
  • Conduct quality control procedures, including daily testing, recording, problem resolution, and compiling reports to ensure accuracy of all results.
  • Review and verify the accuracy of test results before entering them into the information system.
  • Maintain a proper inventory of supplies to ensure continuous service and minimize downtime.
  • Evaluate test results for accuracy, reportability, and clinical significance, and report accordingly.
  • Stay current with industry developments by attending seminars, in-services, and reading industry publications.
  • Evaluate new methodologies and instrumentation under the guidance of the Section Chief and report findings and recommendations.
  • Assume supervisory responsibilities in the absence of the Department Head.
  • Orient and train new employees and students.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements:

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • An Associate's degree in Medical Laboratory Technology and a minimum of six months of job-related experience or equivalent.
  • RI License and ASCP/AMT certification.
