Sensor and Signal Processing Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled Sensor and Signal Processing Engineer to join our team at the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory. As a member of our team, you will be responsible for developing and implementing advanced signal processing algorithms for sensor systems. Your primary focus will be on deriving requirements, performing trade studies, and analyzing the performance of sophisticated sensor systems. You will also develop, implement, test, and verify high-fidelity, physics-based simulations of sensors and environments. Additionally, you will research concepts and develop simulations and algorithms related to signal propagation, signal detection, and air and space-borne sensor systems. You will act as our representative with sponsors and contractors and lead teams to solve difficult problems in air and missile defense.
Responsibilities
- Derive requirements for sensor systems and perform trade studies to analyze performance
- Develop, implement, test, and verify high-fidelity, physics-based simulations of sensors and environments
- Research concepts and develop simulations and algorithms related to signal propagation, signal detection, and air and space-borne sensor systems
- Act as our representative with sponsors and contractors and lead teams to solve difficult problems in air and missile defense
Qualifications
- Possess a MS in electrical engineering, applied math, physics, computer science, or a related field
- Have 2+ years of experience working with signal processing algorithm development
- Be skilled in simulating or analyzing electromagnetic signals, environments, or sensors
- Be experienced in algorithm development for signal processing
- Be proficient in one or more of the following programming languages: MATLAB, C++, or Python
- Have demonstrated experience in sponsor and contractor interactions that lead to tasking and can communicate sponsor requirements and requests to a team
- Have the willingness to travel up to 15% of the time as needed
- Be able to obtain an Interim Secret level security clearance by your start date and can ultimately obtain a Top Secret level clearance

The referenced pay range is based on JHU APL's good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training, and skill level with consideration for internal parity. For salaried employees scheduled to work less than 40 hours per week, annual salary will be prorated based on the number of hours worked. APL may offer bonuses or other forms of compensation per internal policy and/or contractual designation.
