Med-Surg Overview

Mercy Fort Smith's Med-Surg Service Line is comprised of 7 specialty units, providing a diverse range of patient populations and care needs. These units house and care for patients preparing for or recovering from medical and surgical interventions. Our nurses are cross-trained across various specialties, ensuring a strong foundational knowledge of patient conditions, comorbidities, procedures, and more.

Neuro Unit Details
  • Patient Population: Close monitoring and nursing care for patients with neurological/neurosurgical/surgical and urological diagnoses, including stroke patients and post-back surgery patients.
  • Nurse to Patient Ratio: 6:1
  • # of Beds: 18
  • UAP to Patient Ratio: 9:1

Qualifications
  • Education: Graduated from a school of nursing (Associate's Degree, Diploma, or BSN).
  • Licensure: Is personally responsible for obtaining, and maintaining, a current RN license within the hiring state and/or compact licensure in which nursing duties are performed and must meet all state board of nursing requirements.
  • Certifications: Must have American Heart Association Healthcare Provider card or complete a course within probationary period. Must have ACLS and BLS or obtain within 90 days of hire.
