Job Overview

We are seeking a reliable and safety-conscious CDL Bus Driver to transport members to and from after-school routes and special events.

This is a part-time, non-exempt position with opportunities for full-time driving during Spring Break and Summer.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate vehicles safely and professionally, adhering to traffic regulations and ensuring the safety of children.
  • Transport members along pre-planned routes, following a definite time schedule during the school year.
  • Assume responsibility for the safety of children in loading, unloading, and while transporting them.
  • Instruct members in safety precautions and practices, maintaining discipline and reporting any unruly behavior to a supervisor.
  • Clean the bus interior daily and perform daily preventative maintenance checks.
  • Keep operational records up to date and report issues to the supervisor.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Attend relevant staff meetings and training events.
  • May participate in additional special programs and/or events.
  • Evenings/weekend work may be involved.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A High School diploma or GED.
  • A current state-issued Commercial Driver's License (B) with P Endorsement.
  • A dependable and safe driving history.
  • CPR and First Aid Certification or willingness to obtain (Will Train).
  • Ability to pass DCF Level II background screening and drug test.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with or transporting children.
  • Ability to motivate youth and manage behavior issues.
  • Ability to organize and supervise members while maintaining a safe environment.
  • Ability to work with the public.
  • Experience driving transit buses is a plus.
Work Environment

This position typically works Monday through Friday, 2:30 PM to 4:30 PM, but may require longer hours outside of this schedule and occasional weekends when necessary.

Full-time driving may be available during Spring Break and during the Summer.

Physical and Mental Requirements
  • Ability to sit for long periods.
  • Ability to lift and move equipment up to 25 lbs.
  • Ability to hear at a normal conversational level.
  • Ability to maintain a high energy level when necessary.
  • High degree of emotional intelligence.
  • Ability to work in various weather conditions—hot, cold, rainy, etc.
