The County of Los Angeles, CA is seeking highly motivated and compassionate individuals to join our team as Psychiatric Technicians in Correctional Health. As a vital member of our multidisciplinary teams, you will play a crucial role in delivering mental health treatment services to vulnerable populations within our correctional facilities.

Job Summary

This is an entry-level position that requires a valid and active license as a Psychiatric Technician issued by the California Department of Consumer Affairs, Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians. You will work under the close supervision of a mental health clinical program manager, psychiatrist, or other licensed physician and assist in the control, evaluation, and treatment of clients.

Responsibilities
  • Apply principles of mental health in relationships with mentally ill or emotionally disturbed clients as a member of a Psychiatric Mobile Response Team, Clinical Behavioral Management Response Team, crisis intervention team, or therapeutic team at an outpatient or inpatient facility.
  • Observe, evaluate, record, and report significant changes in the client's condition to professional staff.
  • Provide direct and indirect patient care, including helping clients with personal hygiene such as bathing and personal grooming.
  • Record measures of the client's physical condition, such as pulse, temperature, respiration, weight, and body mass index.
  • Aid or restrain clients to prevent injury to themselves or others.
  • Prepare appropriate forms in connection with emergency calls, evaluation of the client's condition, and maintenance of the client's records.
  • Assist professional staff members in providing and documenting occupational, recreational, and vocational therapy programs related to the client's treatment plan.
  • Administer prescribed medications to clients in acute psychiatric settings.
Requirements

To be eligible for this position, you must possess a valid and active license as a Psychiatric Technician issued by the California Department of Consumer Affairs, Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians. A California Class 'C' Driver's License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions is also required.
