Dedicated Patient Care Specialist

We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Nursing Care Assistant I to join our team at Duke University Hospital in Durham, North Carolina.
Job SummaryThis role is responsible for providing direct patient care support to registered nurses and licensed practical nurses, ensuring the comfort and well-being of patients in their assigned work area. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, be able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, and demonstrate a strong commitment to patient-centered care.
Key Responsibilities- Assist with preparing patients, equipment, and supplies for specific procedures and provide manual assistance as required.
- Obtain and record patient data for medical records, noting and informing RN/LPN of information collected.
- Administer treatment and personal care procedures to patients, including feeding, bathing, hair care, changing clothing, nail care, bed-making, assisting with ambulation, enemas, skin care, and bowel and bladder elimination.
- Participate in teaching activities by reinforcing teaching instructed by RN and/or providers as needed.
- Assist providers and nurses with physical examinations, help position patients, change non-sterile dressing, and weigh patients.
To be successful in this role, you must have:
- A valid nursing assistant certification and completion of a Level I - Nurse Aide education program approved by the North Carolina Board of Nursing or successful completion of the NC-approved Nurse Aide I competency test.
- A high school diploma or equivalent.
- BCLS certification maintained/completed by the end of new hire orientation.
- The ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions, document and communicate pertinent information using computer and/or paper documentation tools, establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients and hospital staff, and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
