We are seeking a skilled Healthcare Assistant to join our team at Hennepin County Medical Center. This part-time role requires working 60 hours over two weeks, with varying shifts, including overnights and every third weekend.

Job Overview

The Healthcare Assistant will contribute to the health and well-being of assigned patients by performing quality patient care, technical procedures, and related duties that meet established standards. They will act as a competent, caring, and collaborative member of the patient care team, providing clerical support for the unit, including identified EHR duties, answering phones, coordinating unit communication, etc.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain a positive working relationship with patients, families, team members, departmental personnel, and medical center staff.
  • Assist patients with activities of daily living, including hygiene, grooming, and bathing.
  • Respond to patient call lights in a timely manner, identify patient needs, and provide appropriate responses or communicate needs to relevant team members.
  • Perform intentional rounding in collaboration with registered nurses.
  • Take and record patients' vital signs according to nursing protocol or physician orders.
  • Measure and record patient intake and output according to established protocols and orders.
  • Conduct point-of-care tests as assigned and/or delegated.
  • Communicate any changes or pertinent information related to patients' physical appearance, attitude, I & O, vital signs, and point-of-care testing to nurses, recording which nurse was notified for abnormal results.
  • Maintain patient rooms neat, clean, and orderly, changing bed linen as scheduled and needed.
  • Escort patients on foot or transport them using carts, beds, or wheelchairs.
  • Procure and stock equipment and supplies, ensuring they are operable and clean.
  • Greet and relay information to relevant staff, physicians, or family members.
  • Take inventory of patient belongings and valuables, documenting and securing them.
  • Collect specimens using clean technique and label them appropriately.
  • Dispose of trash, linens, and supplies properly.
  • Ensure patient and supply rooms are properly stocked, with linen covered.
  • Support unit and medical center compliance with regulatory standards, customer service, and other initiatives.
Requirements and Qualifications

To be considered for this role, applicants must meet the following minimum qualifications:

  • Current certification on the Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry (maintenance is not required after hire).
  • Completion of one semester of clinical rotation within an accredited nursing program.
  • Enrollment in and successful completion of the Hennepin Healthcare-determined Nursing Assistant program.
  • 6 months of acute nursing assistance experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Basic Life Support training.
  • Training/equivalent experience as a nursing assistant, CNA, or EMT.
  • Current student (enrolled) in a 4-year RN program.
  • Experience with EPIC and/or similar electronic health record systems.
  • One year of nursing assistant experience in a similar hospital setting.
Salary and Benefits

This part-time position comes with an estimated salary range of $20-$25 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience, resulting in a yearly salary of approximately $40,000-$50,000.
