Housing Specialist Job Description
The Housing Specialist will work collaboratively with our team to engage families in need and help them develop a plan for housing search and locating safe, affordable, and permanent housing options. You will be responsible for providing individualized support, motivational interviewing, and advocacy to ensure that each family has access to the resources they need. Your creativity, problem-solving skills, and ability to navigate complex systems will be essential in identifying traditional and non-traditional housing opportunities and other resources to support clients' ability to obtain and maintain housing.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement housing plans tailored to each family's unique needs.
- Provide individualized support and motivation to families throughout the housing search process.
- Collaborate with community landlords and government housing agencies to identify available housing options.
- Navigate housing subsidy programs and assist clients in accessing benefits.
- Build relationships with community housing partners to expand housing search opportunities.
- Network with area housing resources and attend community housing resource meetings.
- Document all interactions with clients and prepare reports on housing outcomes, successes, and challenges.
- Meet EOHLC Scope of Services and agency contract outcome goals regarding housing efforts and placements.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor's degree in human services or related field.
- 2 years of experience in case management and rehousing services focused on pre-tenancy and tenancy-sustaining services.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Knowledge of community resources, state and federal benefits, and services.
- Basic math and budgeting skills.
- Ability to work effectively as a team member and collaborate with providers and community partners.
- Problem-solving abilities.
