Overview

As a highly skilled Senior Engineer with Consolidated Edison Company of New York, you will have the opportunity to work on complex engineering projects and make independent decisions. Your primary responsibility will be to direct or perform specific engineering assignments of major size or complexity. You will establish specifications for contracts, review bids, and make or approve field design changes. In this role, you will also represent Central Engineering in resolving engineering-related problems and coordinating work to be done. If selected, you must possess strong oral and written communication skills and be able to effectively interact with various levels of management. Additionally, you should have a high regard for personal accountability and understand the critical importance of commitment to excellence.

Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities The Senior Engineer is responsible for conceiving, planning, designing engineering solutions or alternatives for new refurbishment projects. This includes technical and economic evaluations, specification preparation, feasibility studies, and long-term planning. The engineer will serve as a sponsor engineer, meeting with other departments in the design, estimating, erection, testing, maintaining, and supplying consultation for the installation of mechanical & control and instrumentation equipment. The engineer will prepare appropriations for sponsored projects, specifications, and system designs for the installation and repair of mechanical equipment, and instrumentation and control equipment. They will also prepare engineering sketches required to modify systems and monitor implementation by company forces. Furthermore, the engineer will provide design improvement recommendations in connection with steam generating plant systems. They will review preliminary engineering drawings and specifications with user coordinators released for comment. Additionally, the engineer will perform independent economic evaluations of system equipment replacements and new projects

Qualifications

Required Education/Experience To be considered for this position, you must have a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering and 8 years of applicable engineering work experience. Alternatively, applicants with a Master's Degree in Engineering and 6 years of applicable engineering work experience are also eligible. You must have a working knowledge of applicable codes and standards such as ASME, NFPA, NEC, ACI, AISC, ASCE, New York City Building Code, etc. You must also have a thorough understanding of the environmental issues that impact Steam Boiler Team Projects. Knowledge of evaluating inspections and repairs, construction methods, and cost estimating is required. You should possess strong customer service instincts and be well organized, detail-oriented, and able to render sound business decisions. You should also have the flexibility to handle multiple assignments and meet deadlines. A high regard for personal accountability and an understanding of the critical importance of commitment to excellence are essential. You must be able to promote a positive work ethic in support of the Company's Corporate Values, possess a high energy level, and have a demonstrated commitment to environmental excellence and safety in the workplace. Strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to effectively interact with personnel on all levels (management and union) are necessary. Supervising out-of-house consulting engineers is also required. Preferred qualifications include a NYS PE License.
