Job Title: Diesel Mechanic - Heavy Equipment Specialist

GPAC is seeking a skilled Diesel Mechanic to join our team. As a Diesel Mechanic, you will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining diesel engines and hydraulic systems on a variety of heavy equipment used in street maintenance and sewer maintenance.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintenance & Repairs:
    • Perform inspections, diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs on a fleet of heavy equipment, including vacuum trucks, street sweepers, hydro excavators, etc.
    • Troubleshoot and repair diesel engines, transmissions, hydraulic systems, electrical components, and braking systems.
    • Conduct routine preventative maintenance such as oil changes, tire rotations, fluid level checks, and brake inspections to ensure vehicle longevity and safety.
  • Fleet Management:
    • Keep detailed records of all maintenance and repairs performed on vehicles and equipment.
    • Ensure all equipment is compliant with local, state, and federal safety and emissions regulations.
    • Assist in managing the maintenance schedule to minimize downtime for vehicles.
  • Safety & Compliance:
    • Adhere to all safety protocols, including wearing proper PPE and following procedures for hazardous materials handling.
    • Stay up-to-date with industry best practices and ensure all work is performed in compliance with OSHA regulations and other relevant safety standards.
Qualifications:
  • Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a Diesel Mechanic, with a focus on heavy-duty vehicles such as garbage trucks, vacuum trucks, street sweepers, hydro excavators, and similar equipment.
  • Certifications: ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certification in diesel mechanics preferred but not required. CDL preferred but not required.
  • Skills:
    • Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on experience with hydraulic systems, diesel engines, electrical systems, and brake repairs.
    • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics.
    • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
    • Familiarity with diagnostic tools and equipment.
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Vocational or technical training in diesel mechanics or heavy equipment repair is preferred.
