Aquatics Staff Position

The YMCA of Pierce and Kitsap Counties is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Aquatics Staff member to join our team. As an Aquatics Staff, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety of our members at all times, instructing swimming lessons, and performing necessary rescue actions.
Key Responsibilities:- Ensure Member Safety: Vigilantly scan the water and pool deck areas, monitor activities, identify safety issues and concerns, enforce rules, and follow YMCA emergency procedures and protocols.
- Instruct Swimming Lessons: Teach basic and advanced stroke skills to youth members, creating a positive and supportive learning environment.
- Perform Rescue Actions: Administer first aid and CPR in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures, and complete related reports as required.
- Prepare Lesson Plans: Develop engaging and effective lesson plans that cater to the abilities and ages of the classes.
- Communicate Safety Rules: Consistently communicate and apply safety rules, policies, and guidelines for the pool and aquatic areas.
- Attend Training and Certification Courses: Participate in monthly, quarterly, and/or annual training and certification courses to maintain and enhance skills.
- Maintain Positive Relationships: Foster effective and positive relationships with members, participants, and other staff.
- Commitment to Diversity: Value and promote diversity, and contribute to an inclusive working and learning environment.
- Certifications: Hold current Lifeguard, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, First Aid, and Oxygen certifications.
- Age and Experience: Be at least 16 years old and have six months or more of related aquatics experience (preferred).
- Experience with Youth and Diverse Populations: Have previous experience working with youth and diverse populations.
- Child Abuse Prevention Training: Be able and willing to take Child Abuse Prevention training on the first day, as well as other online and in-person trainings as required.
- Talking and Communication: Regularly required to talk with members and program participants.
- Standing and Walking: Frequently required to stand and walk.
- Reaching and Grasping: Frequently required to use hands to grasp and feel, and reach with hands and arms.
- Sitting: Frequently required to sit for long periods of time.
- Lifting and Moving: Occasionally lift or move up to 40 pounds and occasionally lift or move a higher amount.
- Visual and Auditory Abilities: Regularly required to see and observe all sections of an assigned zone or area of responsibility, and hear noises and distress signals in the aquatic environment.
- Alertness: Remain alert with no lapses of consciousness.
