**Job Summary:**

We are seeking a skilled Laboratory Processing Specialist to join our team at Clinical Pathology Laboratories, Inc. This role will be responsible for processing non-gynecologic specimens for microscopic examination by cytotechnologists and pathologists.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Specimen Processing: Utilize on-the-job training, acquired skills, departmental resources, professional judgment, and problem-solving skills to accurately process specimens and maintain support systems according to established procedures.
  • Quality Control: Follow all established procedures recognizing the importance of patient care for each submitted sample.
  • Equipment Operation: Process non-gynecological specimens using various methods of preparation, including liquid base concentration (LBC) processing.
  • Collaboration: Notify the department supervisor or designee in situations beyond individual educational training or experience.
  • Maintenance: Prepare and maintain all support systems as instructed, including but not limited to: filtering, changing/rotating non-gynecological stains, alcohols, and xylenes according to established procedures.
  • Communication: Maintain a positive and professional work ethic, striving to meet departmental goals and mutually established employee-supervisor objectives.
  • Timeliness: Consistently produce accurate, neat, timely, and thorough work.
  • Teamwork: Meet departmental target time for non-gynecologic specimen processing completion.
  • Confidentiality: Demonstrate an understanding of the confidential nature of work being performed, supporting it via compliance with company confidentiality policy.
  • Professional Development: Recognize areas for improvement offered by the supervisor and/or pathology staff, agreeing to attain them when possible.
  • On-Call Rotations: Work on-call weekends on Saturday in a rotating schedule to perform tasks as requested.
  • Attendance: Maintain a satisfactory attendance record.

About the Role:

This position promotes quality client/patient relations and creates a supportive climate by serving as a role model for behavior. It respects and maintains the confidentiality of information relative to the laboratory, adhering to all laboratory policies and regulations.

The ideal candidate will have routine access to Protected Health Information (PHI) and is expected to maintain strict confidentiality while abiding by all applicable privacy and security standards. They should only access PHI when required to fulfill job duties.

Requirements:

Education: Minimum - High School Diploma or GED; Preferred - Two years of college with Science or Biology coursework.

Experience: Minimum – Training or experience in specimen collection and/or processing; Preferred – Two years of laboratory training or experience in specimen collection and processing.

Skills: Ability to communicate effectively at all levels within the laboratory and with laboratory clients, ability to read and write.

Physical Demands: Requires light to medium lifting and carrying of objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Involves manipulation of tools, objects, and equipment using various physical motions, coordination of two or more physical operations, visual discrimination of color, size, shape, and motility, hearing audible alarms on temperature monitored equipment and automated analyzers.

Environmental Conditions: Works in a temperature-controlled environment with constant exposure to biological and chemical hazards. May require operating fire and safety equipment or following other safety procedures in emergency situations, working under time constraints and in crisis situations.

Work Schedule: The successful candidate will work 40 hours per week, primarily during the 3rd shift (United States of America).

Estimated Salary Range: $45,000 - $65,000 per year based on location and experience.
