Job Summary

Washington University in St. Louis seeks a skilled Mechanic (Electrician) to join its Facilities, Planning & Management team. The successful candidate will work with a team of multi-craft mechanics to perform routine and emergency electrical and multi-craft maintenance tasks for campus facilities. This includes maintenance, installation, repair, and inspection of lighting and electrical infrastructure, as well as multi-craft maintenance activities such as working with plumbing systems, HVAC, paint, and basic carpentry.

Key Responsibilities
  • Providing preventative, ongoing, and emergency maintenance in an administrative and short-term lodging environment.
  • Maintaining and repairing lighting, electrical distribution, VFDs, motor and pumps, monthly testing/exercising, and load transfers.
  • Troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining lighting and electrical distribution.
  • Pro-actively identifying, communicating, prioritizing, and addressing needs without direction when appropriate.
  • Responding to work orders and other requests in a timely, efficient, competent, knowledgeable, and friendly manner.
  • Maintaining data per departmental policy.
  • Utilizing materials, supplies, tools, and other University property in a safe and productive manner.
Requirements
  • Familiarity with modern lighting systems, including programmable systems, driver/lamp replacement, and knowledge of unique address assignment/logic.
  • Experience with monthly testing/exercising, load transfers, and associated documentation of backup generators.
  • Aptitude to learn and develop proficiency in JCI software.
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively/appropriately with members of the campus community and other employees within Facilities.
  • Understanding of the importance of satisfying the needs of the campus community (customer-oriented) and providing value to the University.
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints.
  • Willingness to provide one's own hand tools.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Minimum of five years' experience working in a particular craft or multi-craft position.
  • Must be able to obtain a Missouri Class E Driver's License by the end of the Probationary period and cannot drive University-owned vehicles until Class E Driver's License is obtained.
