We are seeking a highly skilled Patient Care Specialist to join our team at Mount Sinai Health System. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic and supportive environment, providing exceptional patient care and contributing to the success of our organization.
Job SummaryThe Patient Care Specialist will work closely with Registered Professional Nurses to provide direct patient care and related activities as assigned. This role requires strong communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities- Direct Patient Care: Perform procedures associated with activities of daily living and personal hygiene of patients.
- Patient Observation: Observe, report, and record routine and specific patient data, behaviors, and responses to treatment on appropriate flow sheets.
- Admission and Discharge: Perform procedures associated with the admission, transfer, and discharge of patients.
- Food and Fluid Intake: Perform procedures associated with the maintenance of food or fluid intake.
- Excretion of Body Waste: Perform procedures associated with excretion of body waste and/or loss of fluids.
- Patient Movement: Provide for safe and comfortable movement of patients in accordance with the principles of good body mechanics.
- Safety Precautions: Use mechanical devices as necessary and perform simple applications of heat and cold.
- Care of Deceased Patients: Provide care to the body of deceased patients in preparation for removal to the morgue, and provide support to the family/significant others.
- Equipment Maintenance: Obtain, assemble, and maintain equipment for use during diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
- Assistance with Procedures: Assist members of the health care team with physical exam and other procedures.
- Errands: Perform errands away from the area of assignment to implement the care of patients, including transporting stat specimens and/or obtaining supplies as necessary.
- Cleaning and Maintenance: Maintain a clean, uncluttered, and tidy environment, and maintain equipment and clean as necessary, stocking supplies.
- Agression Control: Utilize aggression control measures in the care of patients who are verbally or physically threatening.
- Special Observation: Perform 1:1 observation of patients on special observation status, such as suicide, safety, elopement precautions.
- Ongoing Staff Development: Attend ongoing staff development as assigned to maintain appropriate knowledge base and skills.
- Education: High School Diploma required.
- Experience: Three to nine months of healthcare experience preferred. Venipuncture and EKG skills required.
- Certification: Certificate of Medical Assistant training or equivalent.
- Training: Heartsaver Certification from American Heart Association and/or BCLS.
