Job Summary:

UCHealth is seeking a HIPAA Compliance Specialist to ensure the organization's compliance with Health Insurance Portability and Affordability Act (HIPAA) and all other policies, procedures, laws, and regulations concerning protected health information.

Responsibilities:

  • Safeguard and protect patient rights to privacy by ensuring authorized individuals have access to medical information and all releases of information comply with requests, authorizations, company policy, and HIPAA regulations.
  • Compile, process, and maintain medical records of hospital and clinic patients in accordance with medical, administrative, ethical, legal, and regulatory requirements of the healthcare system.
  • Prioritize release of information requests, retrieve medical records from active, inactive, and interdepartmental locations, and electronically track and deliver records in accordance with established procedures.
  • Perform self-quality checks on all work to assure accuracy of the release, confidentiality, and proper billing/charging.
  • Work in a fast-paced environment and take appropriate action.

Requirements:

  • Associate's degree.
  • 2 years' related experience.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree, training in Medical Terminology and Human Anatomy.
  • Certified as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA).
