Clinical Safety Specialist

The Clinical Safety Specialist plays a pivotal role in ensuring the safety of our patients, staff, and visitors by implementing and maintaining a robust culture of safety. This position is responsible for overseeing adverse event analysis, promoting high-reliability principles, and maintaining a safe environment of care throughout our organization.
Key Responsibilities:
Fostering a Culture of Safety:
Develop, implement, and promote a culture of safety throughout the organization by providing education and training to staff on patient safety principles, practices, and initiatives. Encourage open communication and collaboration among healthcare teams to identify and address safety concerns.
Adverse Event Analysis:
Lead the investigation and analysis of adverse events, near misses, and sentinel events to identify root causes and contributing factors. Develop strategies for prevention and collaborate with relevant departments to implement corrective and preventive actions based on findings.
High Reliability:
Implement high reliability principles and methodologies to reduce the occurrence of errors and adverse events. Monitor key performance indicators related to patient safety and reliability, and facilitate regular safety huddles and debriefings to proactively address safety issues and promote a culture of continuous improvement.
Environment of Care:
Conduct regular assessments of the physical environment to identify potential safety hazards and collaborate with facility management and other stakeholders to address environmental concerns and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
Reporting and Documentation:
Maintain accurate records of adverse events, near misses, and safety initiatives. Prepare reports and presentations on patient safety metrics, trends, and improvement efforts for leadership and regulatory agencies, and ensure compliance with all relevant regulatory requirements and accreditation standards related to patient safety.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Nursing required. CT Registered Nurse license or license eligible. Certified Professional in Patient Safety (CPPS) certification preferred. Minimum of 3 years of experience in healthcare quality improvement, patient safety, or risk management. In-depth knowledge of patient safety principles, adverse event analysis, and high reliability methodologies. Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify trends, patterns, and opportunities for improvement. Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills. Proficiency in data analysis tools and software applications. Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
