About the Position

The Supervisory Medical Records Technician (ROI) is a critical role within the Health Information Management (HIM) section at the Ralph H. Johnson VAMC, responsible for overseeing the Release of Information Unit and ensuring timely access to patient health information.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Serve as a supervisor and technical expert for the Release of Information Unit, providing guidance and suggestions to the Chief, HIM, and Assistant, Chief HIM regarding staffing needs and shortages.
  • Review work accomplished and assess quality, quantity, accuracy, and timeliness of work produced by each employee.
  • Develop performance standards and conduct performance evaluations, competency assessments, and provide corrective action when necessary.
  • Ensure compliance with accrediting agency and regulatory requirements, including preparing and disclosing health records related to malpractice, subpoenas, and tort cases in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate with VA Regional Counsel to ensure accurate and timely release of health records.

Requirements

To be considered for this role, you must have one year of creditable experience that indicates knowledge of medical terminology and general understanding of health records. Additionally, you must be proficient in spoken and written English and possess strong interpersonal relations and conflict resolution skills. This position requires significant scope, complexity, and range of variety, with full supervisory responsibility including preparation of work assignments, monitoring employee performance, evaluating staff, selecting personnel, recommending awards and advancements, and taking disciplinary actions.
