We are seeking a Medical Laboratory Specialist or Clinical Laboratory Scientist to join our team at Geisinger Medical Laboratories.

About the Role

This is a per diem position working nights, typically from 10pm to 6:30am. No travel is required.

Responsibilities
  • Perform and report various analyses from multiple specimen sources.
  • Provide the highest level of patient care and maximize patient satisfaction.
  • Maintain an expected level of productivity.
  • Manage multiple work processes efficiently.
  • Complete tasks in a timely manner.
  • Handle specimens properly.
  • Confirm identification and specimen suitability.
  • Use appropriate accessioning procedures.
  • Recognize discrepancies on patient orders.
  • Resolve and report problems and solutions as appropriate.
  • Perform and record instrument maintenance, troubleshooting, and quality control.
  • Replenish reagents and supplies according to established protocols.
  • Follow established reporting procedures, computerized, verbal, and manual as appropriate.
  • Navigate and access multiple computer applications as needed for job functionality.
  • Assist in the training and orientation of new employees.
  • Participate in educational activities to maintain current knowledge in the field.
  • Satisfy all job-specific obligations and comply with all organization policies and procedures.
Requirements

A bachelor's degree in biological, chemical, physical, or clinical laboratory science is required. For Medical Laboratory Scientist, additional requirements include successful completion of an ASCP/NAACLS-accredited Medical Technology/Medical Laboratory Science program, categorical certification, or at least two years' experience in a role equivalent to that of a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) in a clinical laboratory. For Medical Laboratory Technician, an associate degree in a laboratory science with certification (or eligible new graduate) from an accredited institution as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) is required.
