POSITION SUMMARY
The Registered Nurse in the PACU is responsible for independently planning, executing, and assessing nursing care in various patient scenarios, adhering to established standards and protocols. This role involves delivering direct nursing care, assuming educational and leadership duties, and participating in quality improvement initiatives with minimal supervision.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Document patient care information accurately in electronic or paper records.
- Conduct comprehensive admission assessments and gather patient history effectively.
- Provide patient care utilizing critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Administer medications safely, ensuring knowledge of dosages for the specific patient population.
- Coordinate and implement individualized patient and family education.
- Evaluate care outcomes to ensure patient needs are met.
- Complete all documentation thoroughly and legibly.
- Communicate issues and suggestions for improvement through appropriate channels.
- Adhere to hospital policies regarding timekeeping and attendance.
- Engage in continuous learning and maintain clinical competencies.
- Facilitate communication with patients and families throughout the care continuum.
- Understand and apply standards of care relevant to the patient demographic.
- Assist in various peri-anesthesia settings as required.
- Maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations.
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be a licensed Registered Nurse (RN) or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in Florida.
- Experience as specified in departmental requirements.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is mandatory.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- For Pre-Op: Minimum of 1 year acute care RN experience.
- For PACU: 1-2 years of critical care RN experience is preferred.
- Advanced Life Support (ALS) certification is required.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification may be necessary for specific campuses.
