Medical Translation Specialist

We are seeking a Medical Translation Specialist to join our team at the University of New Mexico - Hospitals. As a medical interpreter, you will play a vital role in ensuring that patients with limited English proficiency receive high-quality care.
About the RoleThis is a dynamic and challenging position that requires strong language skills, cultural competence, and excellent communication abilities. The ideal candidate will be fluent in both English and Spanish, possess a deep understanding of medical terminology, and be able to interpret complex information accurately and efficiently.
The Medical Translation Specialist will work closely with our healthcare providers, patients, and families to ensure seamless communication and provide accurate translation services. This may involve interpreting during patient consultations, translating medical documents, and assisting with patient education.

Key Responsibilities- Interpretation Services: Provide accurate and timely interpretation services during patient consultations, hospital meetings, and other medical settings.
- Translation Services: Translate medical documents, reports, and other materials as needed.
- Patient Education: Assist patients and their families with understanding medical information and navigating the healthcare system.
- Cultural Competence: Demonstrate an understanding of diverse cultures and be able to communicate effectively with patients from diverse backgrounds.
- Languages: Fluent in both English and Spanish.
- Certifications: Certified Medical Interpreter (CMI) or equivalent certification.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g., linguistics, translation, medicine).
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience in medical interpretation or a related field.
- Competitive Salary: $62,000 - $72,000 per year, depending on experience.
