Medical Specimen Collector

The Medical Specimen Collector will assist in performing various assigned duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collects and stores specimens according to established procedures.
- Properly explains the process of venipuncture and other specimen collection in a clear and courteous manner.
- Demonstrates technique using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.
- Fully understands all physicians' orders.
- Matches laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes, labels, centrifuges, splits, and freezes specimens as required.
- Checks test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure accuracy.
- Packages specimens for transport.
- Stores specimen samples according to required temperature and accurately labels them.
- Understands and complies with OSHA and DEP regulations.
- Attends annual department trainings.
- Answers telephone calls and reads laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED
- 3+ years of phlebotomy experience
