The Role
Position: Recreation Assistant
Location: Wakefield, MA
Pay rate: $17 per hour (Pay increases after 1 year, pending performance evaluations)
Hours: Part-time, 2-10 hours per week. Schedule may vary.
Responsibilities
The Recreation Assistant is responsible for assisting the program lead at various Recreation Programs, including direct support. Must be available to work flexible hours, particularly late afternoons, evenings, and weekends.
Assist program lead staff in running a variety of recreation programs, including social outings, arts and crafts, sports, fitness, dance, swimming, bowling, and cooking.
Assist in supervising participants, including supervising small groups and individuals, providing 1:1 ratio if needed, and some personal care responsibilities.
Assist in running programs in conjunction with existing community resources, such as the YMCA, school systems, churches, city recreation departments, and Special Olympic programs.
Provide direct support and contact with individuals and caretakers.
Take leadership responsibility in the event of an emergency, including calling emergency services or contacts, and providing transportation.
Provide personal care and assistance to individuals consistent with individual needs as they strive to reach their goals.
Qualifications
At least one year of experience supporting adults with developmental disabilities or experience in a recreation or sports activity leadership position required.
A passion and dedication to supporting our people is a must.
Valid Driver's license, reliable transportation, and acceptable driving record required.
Must pass company background and reference checks.
