About the Role

We are seeking an experienced EHS Manager to join our team at C&D Technologies. As a key member of our organization, you will be responsible for developing, coordinating, and managing effective safety and environmental programs in a lean environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate safety programs to ensure a safe environment consistent with regulatory, environmental, and company requirements and needs.
  • Promote the company mission, philosophy, goals, and objectives by formulating plans, procedures, and objectives for safety programs and by evaluating their effectiveness.
  • Create and maintain a work environment that encourages open communication and positive employee relations to establish a climate of openness and trust.
  • Seek out opportunities for staff involvement and innovation to promote employee creativity and generate ideas to improve functions, devise solutions, and implement plans.
  • Operate and maintain water treatment and wastewater equipment, ensuring compliance with state and federal environmental protection limits.
  • Prepare reports and maintain logs for water treatment systems on meter readings, tests, chemical and equipment usage, and all other record-keeping requirements.
  • Build a cohesive team with the skills necessary to successfully meet departmental and company objectives and strategies.
  • Communicate training information in a formal classroom setting and conduct on-the-job training on various safety and environmental programs.
  • Keep various safety and environmental records and logbooks up to date.
  • Work with the medical department to follow high-cost or precedent-setting workers' compensation cases.
  • Assist with cost-control efforts and participate in manufacturing improvement committees.
  • Interface with OSHA and various environmental programs inspectors.
  • Study, plan, and formulate new and revised safety programs, JSA's, and rules, prepare recommendations, and implement for conformance.
  • Responsible for the effective application of safety and environmental policies and practices and to investigate and eliminate hazardous conditions and unsafe practices.
  • Through safety and environmental training sessions, meetings, manuals, bulletins, films, etc., keep supervisory personnel apprised of hazardous conditions and practices, recommend injury prevention measures.
  • Study work operations, details of the nature of the work, materials and equipment used, products and byproducts, and employee workforce profile.
  • Industrial hygiene studies may involve exposure to dust, fumes, mists, gases, vapors, noise, heat, and cold.
  • Assess new developments in the safety and environmental field that may have application to the company's operations.
  • Keep apprised of developments in federal and state safety and applicable environmental laws likely to affect the company.
  • Coordinate safety and industrial hygiene to obtain optimum service with insurance carriers.
  • Investigate serious injuries/incidents in conjunction with line and staff personnel, Human Resources, and Occupational Health Nurse.
  • Assist line and staff management to understand OSHA regulations and standards, including guidance on handling OSHA compliance, inspections, and citations.
  • Manage and maintain appropriate permitting requirements.
  • Supervise approximately 4 (hourly) direct reports and (1) salaried non-exempt.
  • Evaluate performance, provide feedback, and complete performance reviews.
  • Supervise and train light technical and hourly personnel in performing supporting tasks.
