Sr Architectural Lab Planner

We are seeking an experienced Sr Lab Planner to join our team in San Francisco, California. As a Sr Lab Planner, you will be responsible for leading the laboratory project planning effort toward the successful completion of complex technology facilities; provides overall programming, master planning, lab design planning; communicates with clients/user groups to understand project requirements.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee and advance technical knowledge in laboratory planning and programming of various-sized pharmaceutical, academic research, biotech, or other emerging technical facilities.
  • Provide technical planning expertise and leadership for laboratory facilities in areas such as programming, design, fit-out planning, equipment planning, MEP systems integration planning casework specification and construction administration.
  • Develop comprehensive understanding of clients' program requirements and standards and policies for completion.
  • Lead in design development, modification, and/or review of laboratory planning concepts and solutions.
  • Lead in developing project scope, plan, and services during contract process. Translate planning concepts into comprehensible terms for clients, designers, and project team members.
  • Develop and oversee architectural drawings and specifications to communicate planning concepts for project documentation and construction.
  • Supervise the development of architectural documents, elevations, sections, details, etc.
  • Anticipate and develop solutions to technical and design problems following established standards.
  • Oversee construction administration of laboratory spaces and associated systems.
  • Apply proper QA/QC methods throughout project. Will lead this effort.
  • Maintain excellent relationships with existing and potential clients. Participate in selected marketing and business development opportunities.
  • Actively seek new knowledge in laboratory design and planning within technical facilities.
  • Oversee the development of standard materials describing portfolio, systems, processes, and people of Science + Technology Group.
  • Incorporate Integrated Sustainable Design solutions into projects.
  • Mentor and direct work of less experienced staff. May participate in professional development reviews and 'Lessons Learned' sessions.
  • Avoid HOK document standards not met and archives documents appropriately.
  • Participate actively in industry associations to ensure visibility.
  • Take personal responsibility for fostering green workplace through sustainable work practices.
  • Foster commitment to external and internal client service.
Client Interface:
  • Lead client (heads of departments, specialists, etc.) in programming sessions defining facility needs (SOP and regulatory requirements).
  • Lead periodic project meetings and presentations; ensure client adequately briefed on project progress.
Teamwork:
  • Guide project managers, architects, and project engineers to establish overall project budgets and milestone schedules.
  • Communicate planning concepts to project teams, both verbally and through graphic and written reports.
  • Assist Science + Technology business unit leadership in developing yearly strategic business plans and budget; focusing on appropriate market sectors and strategies for winning and doing work successfully.
  • Participate actively in firm-wide Science + Technology practice within HOK Group, Inc.
  • Set up project team software parameters and manage standards.
  • Oversight preparation of 2D and 3D presentation/design drawings and builds models for client/project team review.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Demonstrate creativity, passion, and interest in laboratory design and planning within technical facilities.
  • Advanced knowledge of technical and regulatory requirements for laboratory design.
  • Advanced knowledge of laboratory programming delivery and how design impacts those systems - including space, operational, and equipment programming, as well as MEP systems and casework.
  • Advanced knowledge of laboratory planning, design, construction documents, construction administration, and project construction cost control for lab facilities.
  • Advanced knowledge of sustainability, integrated design, and LEED guidelines.
  • Possess strong hand and advanced CAD drafting skills.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD/Architectural Desktop preferred.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Proficiency in 3D Modeling software such as 3D Studio Max and Viz 2006 preferred.
  • Proficiency in Photoshop, Illustrator, Sketchup, and InDesign graphic software preferred.
  • Proficiency in Revit or other BIM platform preferred.
  • Proficiency in NewForma preferred.
  • Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing; ability to convey laboratory planning needs to designers and other team members.
  • Ability to work in team environment and supervise others.
  • Ability to effectively meet deadlines.
Compensation and Benefits:

The estimated annual salary range for this position is $110,000 to $145,000, based on experience, qualifications, education, and location in San Francisco, California.
