Clinical Laboratory Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled Clinical Laboratory Scientist II to join our team at CHRISTUS Health. This is a full-time position that requires strong laboratory skills and experience in performing routine and complicated laboratory procedures.
Job SummaryThe successful candidate will be responsible for operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting laboratory instrumentation and equipment, as well as performing quality control procedures. They will also be responsible for calculating, entering, and verifying results of laboratory procedures, and providing notification and documentation of critical laboratory values obtained.
Responsibilities- Perform all routine and complicated laboratory procedures, including specimen processing and handling, testing of patient specimens, and calculation and reporting of results.
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory instrumentation and equipment, and make minor repairs as necessary or notify Bio-med as needed.
- Cross-train to other laboratory sections as needed, and assure that the laboratory's quality control program is properly followed.
- Calculate, enter, and/or verify results of laboratory procedures, and utilize the Laboratory Information System.
- Provide notification and documentation of critical laboratory values obtained, and process patient specimens, including collection, handling, and distribution.
- Participate in the evaluation, development, and implementation of new or updated testing procedures and protocols.
To be successful in this role, you will need to have:
- A Bachelor's Degree or higher in a chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution or equivalent laboratory training and experience meeting the requirements defined in the CLIA regulation 42CFR493.1489.
- No experience required for graduates of a clinical laboratory training program approved or accredited by NAACLS, or other organizations approved by HHS.
- One year of approved clinical laboratory experience, which must include a clinical rotation through the following sections of the laboratory: Blood Banking, Microbiology, Chemistry, and Hematology, Immunology, and Urinalysis/Body Fluids in the U.S. or with an accredited laboratory within the last 5 years.
- Certification for MT, MLS, CLS, or MLT from ASCP, AMT, AAB, or HEW/HHS.
This is a full-time position with a varied work schedule. We offer competitive compensation and benefits, including a salary range of $65,000 - $90,000 per year, depending on experience.
