Road Department Mechanic

This is a challenging and rewarding opportunity to join the Crook County Road Department as a skilled mechanic. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing a variety of skilled mechanical repairs, diagnostic inspections, maintenance, and modifications to automotive, heavy equipment, and other machinery and construction equipment.
Key Responsibilities- Perform skilled mechanical repairs and modifications to automotive vehicles, pickups, dump trucks, construction equipment, and machinery.
- Inspect, adjust, and replace components and related parts in areas such as gasoline and diesel engine repairs, automatic transmission, manual transmission and axle, front end, electrical systems, heating and air-conditioning, engine tune-ups, drive trans, suspension and steering, and hydraulic systems.
- Perform tire replacement and repairs, welding and fabrication from written and oral instructions, and rebuild automotive and construction equipment components such as hydraulic rams, valves, pumps, brakes, etc.
- Perform major repairs and overhauls of gas and diesel equipment, including transmission, differential, front end, hydraulic, and related equipment systems overhauls.
- Follow all policies of the Road Department and Crook County, and perform all other duties as assigned by the Fleet Supervisor as necessary during the workday.
- Provide assistance to Office staff and Working Road Supervisor when requested, and conduct maintenance activities in compliance with county, state, and federal safety policies and practices.
- Provide snow control and sanding operations along County Accepted Maintained Roads as directed by the Road Superintendent, and maintain a valid Oregon CDL and ICC card.
- Minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum 5 years' mechanic experience in Heavy Equipment and Automotive.
- Prior to or on date of hire: maintain a Valid CDL for the State of Oregon, able to complete a thorough employment and/or criminal history check, able to successfully pass a pre-employment drug test, maintain a Valid ICC Medical Card, maintain an Oregon Traffic Control Certification, and Certified welder preferred.
The work location is Crook County Road Department. The work is performed in outside environments with exposure to inclement weather.
