Assembly Technician

We are seeking a highly skilled Assembly Technician to join our team at Edmund Optics. As an Assembly Technician, you will be responsible for assembling and packaging opto-mechanical products for stock and shipment under the direction of the Assembly Manager or Group Leader.
Key Responsibilities- Assemble mechanical components and opto-mechanical components using equipment, hand tools, and bench tools.
- Engrave and apply ink and/or paint to components as required.
- Work with parts lists, drawings, and methods sheets to meet predetermined standard production rates.
- Follow written and verbal procedures and recommend changes or corrections to issues within the procedure as needed.
- Use simple imaging set ups to verify performance of sub-assemblies and finished units.
- Pack lenses and completed assemblies.
- Perform visual inspections of individual subcomponents and completed assemblies.
- Participate in LEAN and 5S+Safety initiatives, including light housekeeping of work areas.
- Maintain control of material in assigned work orders.
- Follow prescribed safety rules and regulations.
- Work with minimal direction/supervision according to build schedule.
- Timeliness and regular attendance are required.
- Must be willing to work overtime as required.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to use hand tools and bench tools.
- Ability to use or learn to use a microscope for extended periods of time.
- Ability to initiate changes to methods sheets, procedures, and specifications.
- Ability to read and interpret blue prints, schematics, and assembly diagrams.
- Ability to learn to troubleshoot optical-mechanical assemblies.
- Ability to sit at a workstation for extended periods of time.
- Ability to work within a clean room and/or a flow booth for extended periods of time.
- Attention to detail.
- Basic computer knowledge.
- Knowledge of basic optical and/or mechanical principles.
High school diploma or equivalent. Two to four years of electronic, mechanical, or optical assembly experience.
Physical RequirementsAbility to lift up to 50 pounds; occasional bending and lifting; ability to stand for long periods of time; work in warehouse environment; may be required to use a ladder to organize or obtain supplies; may be required to use shop and power tools to modify parts or equipment.
