Job Summary:

The School Counselor will provide comprehensive developmental guidance and counseling services to students, focusing on educational and career planning, social and emotional development, and academic achievement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assume professional responsibility for providing guidance and counseling services to students.
  • Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and parents to support student success.
  • Develop and implement individualized plans to address student needs and goals.
  • Provide crisis intervention and support services as needed.
  • Monitor student attendance and progress, and communicate with parents and teachers as necessary.
  • Assist with the administration of standardized tests and assessments.
  • Develop and maintain accurate student records, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with school policies and federal and state laws.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.

Requirements:

  • Hold a valid New Jersey educational services certificate in student personnel services.
  • Have experience working with adolescents and demonstrated knowledge of child growth and development.
  • Exhibit strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, parents, and staff.
  • Be able to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
  • Be able to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize multiple tasks and responsibilities.

Working Conditions:

The School Counselor will work in a school setting, with regular interactions with students, parents, and staff. The position requires strong communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
