Heavy Civil Laborer

Job Summary:
Assist Foreman and skilled craft workers in performing their assigned duties under close supervision. This is an entry-level position as the first step to learn a skill.
Key Responsibilities:
- Dig, spread, and level dirt, sand, and gravel using a pick, shovel, or rake.
- Lift, carry, and hold construction materials, tools, and supplies.
- Clean tools, equipment, materials, and work area.
- Mix, pour, and spread concrete, asphalt, gravel, and other materials using hand tools.
- Join, wrap, and seal sections of pipe.
- Perform a variety of routine non-machine tasks such as removing forms, filling excavations, placing pipe sections in trench, and assembling sections of pipe.
- Perform a variety of machine tasks such as tapping soil, jackhammering, and assisting in the fusing of pipe.
Requirements:
- Comply with all safety policies, practices, and procedures.
- Report all unsafe activities to supervisor and/or Human Resources.
- Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.
- Provide leadership to others through example and sharing of knowledge/skill.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Work Environment:
The work environment/physical demands characteristics described here are representative of those the employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions, extreme cold, and extreme heat. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; and high and/or precarious places. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
