Key Responsibilities

  • Learn and become certified in all farm department areas, including breeding, farrowing, and nursery/finishing.
  • Gain a solid understanding of company systems, such as pig production processes, animal flow, farm health, genetics, and husbandry.
  • Perform and master all hourly jobs under supervision, becoming certified in each job after demonstrating competence and skill.
  • Develop and prepare reports on experiences encountered and address opportunities for improvement.
  • Comply with all environmental laws and procedures, including IPS, biosecurity, animal welfare, and EMS policies.
  • Complete Leadership Certification and understand company policies and procedures.
  • Be on call to work in emergency situations, such as alarm calls, inclement weather, power outages, personnel shortages, and environmental emergencies.

Requirements

  • 4-year college degree in Animal Science or related Agricultural field of study, or equivalent supervisory experience and/or previous swine experience.
  • Ability to work an average 48 hour week, with weekend, evening, and holiday work required as needed.
  • Must be computer literate and proficient in Microsoft software.
  • Ability to lead others, work well in a fast-paced environment, and build strong working relationships.
  • Must be supportive of the mission of raising swine for human consumption of high-quality pork products.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

  • Occasional lifting and/or moving up to 50 lbs.
  • Frequent standing, walking, and use of hands to handle or feel.
  • Must be able to tolerate blood, animal dander, manure, dust, odors, and noisy conditions.
