Job Overview:

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) plays a critical role in supporting the tribal mission and vision by managing business and financial services. This position is responsible for overseeing the company's financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting, as well as driving operational and financial performance to support the tribe's growth objectives.

The CFO will ensure that the tribe derives maximum benefits from the expenditure of tribal financial resources; provides information and serves as a resource to others; achieves defined objectives by planning, evaluating, developing, implementing, and maintaining services in compliance with established guidelines; and serves as a member of the Business Council leadership team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the SMSC's entire financial reporting portfolio, supporting business & economic development objectives with detailed forecasting, and establishing strong interpersonal & trusting working relationships with the SMSC Business Council and SMSC General Council members.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the organization's IPS and investment portfolio, focusing on investment strategy, asset allocation, and performance monitoring.
  • Ensure funds availability through effective cash flow planning.
  • Explore new investment opportunities and provide recommendations on potential returns and risks.
  • Develop and implement financial/ERP systems in a complex environment.
  • Provide leadership in promoting, instituting, and teaching financial discipline across all facets of the organization.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in finance or related field; Master's degree and/or CPA strongly preferred.
  • 15+ years of experience of progressively responsible professional accounting experience, preferably in tribal government, government business administration, finance, accounting or related field; with progressive leadership experience.
