We offer a Graduate Nurse Residency Program that provides hands-on training in medical/surgical/telemetry settings. This program increases confidence at the bedside through intensive classes on cultivating a healthy work environment, building resilience, addressing moral distress, educating patients and families, and growing your career within Cayuga Health.

Nurse residency cohorts typically start in August for May graduates and February for December graduates. Nurses begin the program after being hired for specific nursing units. To be considered, you must apply to the designated residency program that interests you. You can express multiple unit preferences in the application.


Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Assess patients and families who have uncomplicated to highly complex needs, recognizing normal parameters, deviations, and abnormalities based on past experience. Utilize a person-centered approach in care planning and prioritizing tasks to meet patient and family needs.
  • Develop comprehensive care plans that prioritize both expected and unanticipated needs. Involve patients and families in establishing goals.
  • Demonstrate competence in implementing technical skills required for patient care. Stay current on policies, procedures, and standards by remaining resourceful and proactive.
  • Foster collaboration among CMC health team members to achieve care goals. Facilitate connections between patients, families, and other disciplines as needed.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of care delivery, ensuring ongoing follow-through. Reflect on the attainment of care goals and demonstrate proficiency in clinical documentation.

Required Skills and Experience:
  • License: Active New York Nursing license; out-of-state nurses are eligible to apply
  • Minimum Education: Associate's Degree in Nursing
  • Certifications: BLS, PALS (new hires can obtain these during the introductory period)

Salary and Benefits:

$38.63 per hour
