The South Carolina Department of Disabilities and Special Needs (DDSN) is the state agency that plans, develops, coordinates, and funds services for South Carolinians with severe, lifelong disabilities. Our mission is to improve the quality of life for individuals with intellectual disability and related disabilities, autism spectrum disorder, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, and similar disabilities.
Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Nursing Professional to join our team at Whitten Regional Center, a residential facility located in Clinton, SC. As a Nursing Professional, you will provide daily nursing care, training, activities, and treatment to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in accordance with all licensing and certification requirements, the South Carolina Nursing Practice Act, and DDSN policies and procedures.
Responsibilities
- Administer routine oral, subcutaneous, and intramuscular medications as well as treatments in accordance with nursing protocol, facility policies, and procedures.
- Monitor health conditions of the individuals and report findings to medical providers and appropriate staff. Assist physicians/practitioners with examinations and treatments as needed.
- Maintain a safe and sanitary living and working environment.
- Ensure accountability and protection from harm for all individuals through appropriate and thorough documentation.
- Review monthly medication administration records and 90-day recertification orders, complete healthcare records, AIMS/DISCUS, swallowing, and SAOM evaluations. Assist with weights and heights as ordered and indicated by policy and procedures. Properly document as needed.
- Perform and participate in activities as assigned by supervisors, including participation in on-call rotation procedures.
Requirements
- SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF A REGISTERED NURSING EDUCATION PROGRAM FOR PROFESSIONAL NURSING OR AN EQUIVALENT COURSE OF STUDY FROM A REGISTERED NURSING EDUCATION PROGRAM PER SECTION 40-33-32 OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA NURSE LICENSURE ACT.
- LICENSURE AS A LICENSED PRACTICAL NURSE BY THE STATE BOARD OF NURSING FOR SOUTH CAROLINA.
- PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- KNOWLEDGE OF PRACTICAL NURSING PROCEDURES.
- KNOWLEDGE OF SANITATION, PERSONAL HYGIENE, BASIC HEALTH, AND SAFETY PRACTICES.
- KNOWLEDGE OF THE HUMAN ANATOMY.
- ABILITY TO MAINTAIN ATTENTION TO DETAIL.
- ABILITY TO MAKE ACCURATE TECHNICAL AND PHYSICAL OBSERVATIONS OF INDIVIDUALS.
- ABILITY TO COMMUNICATE EFFECTIVELY, BOTH ORALLY AND IN WRITING.
- ABILITY TO MAINTAIN ACCURATE MEDICAL DOCUMENTATION.
- KNOWLEDGE OF RELEVANT FEDERAL AND STATE REGULATIONS AND LAWS.
- ABILITY TO WORK EFFECTIVELY WITH PEOPLE FROM VARIOUS SOCIOECONOMIC, RACIAL, ETHNIC, AND EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUNDS.
- ABILITY TO ESTABLISH AND MAINTAIN EFFECTIVE WORKING RELATIONSHIPS WITH MEMBERS OF THE HEALTHCARE TEAM.
- ABILITY TO LIFT AND MOVE INDIVIDUALS.
- GENERAL KNOWLEDGE OF INDIVIDUALS WITH INTELLECTUAL DISABILITIES.
- ABILITY TO WORK IN A GROUP HOME-LIKE SETTING OR ICF.
- PHYSICAL ABILITY TO WORK WITH INDIVIDUALS WHO MAY BE PHYSICALLY AGGRESSIVE OR MEDICALLY FRAGILE.
