Perioperative Nurse Specialist

We are seeking a skilled Registered Nurse Pre-Assessment Testing to join our team at SCA Health. As a key member of our perioperative team, you will be responsible for promoting the mission, vision, and values of SCA while delivering exceptional patient care. Your expertise will be essential in developing individualized perianesthesia plans of care, communicating patient status, and evaluating past medical history and surgical plans. You will also serve as the initial and primary contact for referral sources, directing screening and clearance of patients scheduled for procedures. Key Responsibilities:
• Develop and implement individualized perianesthesia plans of care
• Communicate patient status throughout the perianesthesia continuum of care
• Evaluate past medical history and surgical plans using PAT anesthesia protocols
• Interview pre-operative patients to gather necessary data for admission
• Review preoperative test results and notify physicians when results are outside normal limits or incomplete
• Serve as initial and primary contact for referral sources to direct screening and clearance of patients scheduled for procedures
• Understand medications and their actions, and educate patients on which medications need to be taken on the day of surgery
• Demonstrate safe operation of equipment and machinery, and follow procedures for reporting and correcting an unsafe situation
• Speak up with safety concerns, acting as the patient's advocate
• Handle specimens according to facility policy and procedures
• Adhere to standard precautions, including the use of personal protective equipment
• Administer medications safely and correctly, using the 8-rights of safe medication administration
• Perform interventions to maintain the integrity of the patient's wound and tissue perfusion at or above baseline levels
• Provide nursing and appropriate monitoring in accordance with policies and procedures
• Perform interventions to protect the patient from infection
• Manage the patient's other co-morbid conditions as applicable
• Assess the patient's knowledge level and provide education regarding the expected psychosocial response, nutritional management, medical management, pain management, wound management, and expected responses to the operative or invasive procedure
• Involve the patient or designated support person actively in decisions affecting their perioperative plan of care and the rehabilitation process
• Protect the patient's rights, dignity, and privacy
• Provide age-specific, culturally competent, ethical care within legal standards of practice
• Comply with Universal Protocol and facility site validation and time-out policy
Requirements:
• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
• One year of pre-op, PACU, and/or medical/surgical nursing experience preferred
• Current state licensure to practice within good standing
• Successful completion of Basic Life Support (BLS) or Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) within 90 days of employment or documentation of current BLS/BCLS certification
• Successful completion of Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Course within 90 days of employment or documentation of current ACLS certification
• Successful completion of Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) course is required when pediatric care is included in the facility scope services within 90 days of employment or documentation of current PALS certification
• Specialty certification in Perioperative or perianesthesia nursing is preferred
Compensation:
Minimum: $40.00/Hr.
Maximum: $43.00/Hr.
