Salary
The estimated salary for this position is $193,600 - $242,000 per annum, depending on experience. This competitive compensation package reflects the importance of attracting top talent to drive our mission forward.

Job Description
We are seeking an exceptional Chief Counsel to provide strategic leadership for NJEDA's legal, governance, compliance, and regulatory affairs. As the principal legal advisor, you will lead efforts to manage risk, ensure adherence to state and federal regulations, and uphold strong governance practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leads all legal and compliance functions, ensuring NJEDA's activities align with state and federal laws, managing legal risks, developing and enforcing regulations, and overseeing the legal review process to protect against fraud, waste, and abuse.
  • Oversees the Board Governance department, which supports and interacts with the EDA Board and affiliated Boards, managing the Board approval process in compliance with the Open Public Meetings Act.
  • Oversees the Business Operations department, responsible for implementing best practices and improving internal processes, ensuring the organization has appropriate written internal controls, policies, and procedures.

Required Skills and Qualifications
To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • Extensive knowledge of state and federal laws, regulations, and executive orders relevant to public sector operations.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including effective communication, collaboration, and conflict resolution.
  • A minimum 20+ years of professional experience, preferably within the public sector, with a minimum of 5 years in middle to upper management positions.
