Cardiovascular Nurse Practitioner

The Cardiovascular Institute of the South seeks a skilled Licensed Practical Nurse to provide patient care in support of cardiovascular physicians and medical personnel. This role requires the ability to travel to other CIS clinics to provide coverage in the event of staffing shortages.
Key Responsibilities- Triage patients and assess emergency cases, obtaining and documenting medication lists, allergies, vital signs, patient complaints, and histories in the electronic medical record.
- Communicate concerns and problems regarding patients to physicians/providers.
- Assist coding and risk management efforts by providing accurate and complete documentation.
- Remain available for physicians/providers as much as possible.
- Assist physicians/providers in patient rooms, if needed.
- Review and complete physician/provider orders, give injections, provide samples, schedule tests, maintain CDS protocols, and perform other related duties.
- Create and maintain accurate and complete electronic documentation, including patient medication lists, allergies, chart notes, and detailed documentation regarding phone calls in the electronic medical record.
- Enter electronic messages to other departments to assist with patient flow and document patient wait times.
- Respond to phone calls, including pharmacy refills, patients, physician offices, home health agencies, and other external contacts.
- Perform blood work and assist with duties associated with Coumadin clinics/patients, as needed.
- Utilize providers to explain diagnostic procedures to patients.
- Provide patient and family education, as needed.
- Interrogate pacemakers and defibrillators and assist with pacemaker clinics.
- Assist in filling out forms, such as home health requests, attending physician statements, employee medical leave forms, work/school doctor excuses, and handicap licenses.
- Review staff alert cards/insurance flags and perform insurance pre-certifications prior to testing, when required.
- Assist in ordering medical supplies.
- Perform all mandated clinic checks, including pro-thrombin time checks, temperature checks, defibrillator machine checks, crash cart checks, OSHA clean and stock rooms, and drug closet checks.
- Assist in staffing other clinics and departments, as needed.

- Communicate any problems, difficulties, or concerns regarding job duties to team leaders.
- Perform all duties without significant error occurring with any regularity.
- Meet all deadlines and timeframes for completion of assignments.
- Represent CIS in a professional manner at all times.
- Demonstrate acceptable ability to interact with physicians, staff, and external customers on a professional level at all times.
- Exhibit good communication skills with physicians, patients, team leaders, and co-workers at all times.
- Exhibit a harmonious relationship with other CIS employees, whenever possible, to accomplish the duties and responsibilities of the position.
- Adhere to the CIS Compliance Plan as it pertains to the above specific job duties.
- Use best efforts to maintain compliance by following the CIS Corporate Compliance Plan, attending CIS compliance education, following medical documentation guidelines, and communicating concerns regarding compliance issues.
- Perform accurate and complete documentation in the patient's medical record, when applicable.
- Maintain patient confidentiality according to HIPAA standards of privacy and security.
