The Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator is responsible for the operation of the wastewater treatment plant, ensuring compliance with federal regulations and maintaining a safe working environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate and maintain process equipment, including manual and computer controls.
  • Collect and analyze samples from various treatment processes.
  • Perform laboratory analysis and implement process control measures to ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Responsible for the proper operation of treatment processes and equipment.
  • Evaluate data and maintain detailed records of process control analysis and meter readings.
  • Troubleshoot operational problems, including process microbiology.
  • Perform minor preventive and corrective maintenance on equipment, including plant instrumentation.
  • Unload and store chemicals, receive and handle, dilute, mix, meter, direct flow, and monitor all chemical systems at the plant.
  • Provide assistance and guidance to lower-grade and new employees.
  • Ensure all work areas are clean and comply with applicable safety rules and regulations.

Requirements:

  • High School diploma or General Educational Development (GED) certificate and three (3) years of experience in the operations of a wastewater treatment system.
  • Valid Class II ABC certification or equivalent class from Maryland (Class 2) or Virginia (Class 3).
  • Knowledge of wastewater treatment processes, equipment, and instrumentation.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and operate process control systems.
  • Knowledge of safety procedures, including confined space entry, personal protective equipment, and process safety management.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds and work in a fast-paced environment.
