Job Summary:
As a Nurse Practitioner, you will obtain and record patient medical history, perform physical examinations, and order, evaluate, and monitor medical and laboratory diagnostic tests and treatment plans. You will work under the limited direction of the attending Physician or designee to prepare, develop, and initiate treatment plans in consultation with attending physicians.
Key Responsibilities:
- Obtain and record patients' medical history
- Perform physical examinations, assess patients' conditions/symptoms, and document results in the electronic medical record
- Order, evaluate, and monitor medical and laboratory screening and diagnostic tests, treatment plans, including laboratory tests, x-rays, pharmaceuticals, blood products, and interdisciplinary consultations
- Prescribe medications and educate patients regarding reasons for prescribing, medication interactions, and side effects
- Prepare, develop, and initiate inpatient and outpatient treatment plans in consultation with attending physicians
- Educate and counsel patients and family members on health conditions, desired results of treatment plans, expectations during illness and recovery, and other related areas
- Conduct patient rounds and document assessments, diagnoses, and treatment plans in progress notes
- Perform a variety of patient care activities in assigned outpatient clinics (e.g., surgical procedures, pre- and post-operative care, etc.)
- Prepare patient discharge summaries
- Refer patients to physicians, specialty services, and community organizations as needed
- Respond to patient emergencies and initiate appropriate treatments

Education and/or Experience:
- Graduate of an accredited Acute Care, Adult Primary Care, or Family Nurse Practitioner program
- Master's Degree in Nursing
- Current Michigan Registered Nurse License
- 3 years professional experience in an acute setting preferred
- Supervisory and/or management experience required
- Current ANCC or AANP Certification
- Current BLS Certification; ACLS Certification preferred
- Knowledge of nursing theory and practice to give and evaluate patient care
- Knowledge of OSHA, MIOSHA, JACHO, and HIPPA regulations
- Knowledge of Public Health Code and Michigan Nurse Practice Act preferred
- Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations
- Good written and verbal communication skills to convey and receive information effectively (face-to-face, telephone, and electronic)
- Good analytical and judgment skills
- Ability to use computer software programs and systems
- Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding patients, personnel, and/or financial data
- Excellent organizational skills to work independently, prioritize, handle multiple tasks, and manage time
