Job Summary

This role focuses on providing medical and clinical support services to patients in a fast-paced surgical environment. The Surgical Services Specialist will work closely with physicians and registered nurses to ensure efficient and smooth patient flow.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist the Operating Room team with routine clinical activities, working under the supervision of a Registered Nurse during surgical procedures.
  • Set up daily procedure rooms, adhering to established surgical protocols and physician preferences.
  • Turn over procedure rooms in a timely manner, ensuring a safe and clean environment for patients.
  • Prepare surgical equipment and instruments for specific procedures, demonstrating knowledge of aseptic technique.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Two (2) years of operating room experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate's degree in a Surgical Technologist program.
  • Three (3) years of same day, orthopedic, endoscopy, LASIK, or other relevant surgical experience.
  • Specialty certifications.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to work within the semi-restricted and restricted environment of the Operating Room and other Perioperative support areas.
  • Stands under hot surgical lights for prolonged periods of time.
  • Possibility of muscle strain from lifting patients and heavy equipment, shocks and burns from cautery units and autoclaves.
  • Frequent exposure to hazardous chemicals, blood and bodily fluids, extreme noise levels, radiation, lasers, drastic fluctuations in ambient temperature, etc.
Skills & Abilities
  • Advanced knowledge of aseptic technique and infection prevention practices.
  • Basic knowledge of anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, microbiology, and pharmacology to ensure that optimal patient care is provided.
  • Basic knowledge of computers, surgical equipment, and infrastructure.
  • Basic knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients throughout the life span.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to effectively interact with staff, patients, physicians, vendors, and other departments within the hospital.
