Barn Worker-Milker Position at Penn State University

Penn State College of Agricultural Sciences is seeking a skilled Barn Worker-Milker to join their team. This individual will be responsible for preparing and milking cows, operating milking equipment, and maintaining the cleanliness of the barn.
About the Role:

Responsibilities:
The Barn Worker-Milker will be responsible for:
- Maintaining the health and well-being of the dairy herd through regular milking, feeding, and monitoring of the animals.
- Operating and maintaining milking equipment, including the milking parlor, crowd gates, and computer systems.
- Cleaning and sanitizing the barn and surrounding areas to ensure a safe and healthy environment for the animals.
- Assisting in the development and implementation of breeding and lactation programs to improve the overall efficiency of the dairy operation.
- Collaborating with veterinarians and other livestock specialists to diagnose and treat animal health issues.
Requirements:
To be successful in this role, candidates must possess the following qualifications:
- A high school diploma or equivalent required; associate's degree or higher preferred.
- 1-2 years of experience working with livestock, preferably in a dairy setting.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with colleagues and management.
Compensation:
The estimated salary for this position is $45,000 - $60,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications. In addition to competitive pay, Penn State offers a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision insurance, as well as retirement savings options.
