Clinical Education and Infection Prevention Specialist RN

Compensation: $10,000 sign-on bonus and a competitive salary range of $60,000 - $80,000 per year.
About the Role:
The Staff Development Coordinator/Infection Preventionist RN is a key member of our team at The Laurels of Defiance. As a Registered Nurse (RN) with a passion for education and infection prevention, you will be responsible for designing and implementing educational programs for nursing staff, conducting orientation, and providing in-service educational programs. Additionally, you will play a critical role in preventing or controlling infections by analyzing surveillance reports and developing strategies to mitigate infection potential among residents and staff.
Responsibilities:
- Clinical Education:
- Design, plan, and deliver educational programs on all shifts and for all departments.
- Participate in the staff evaluation process by providing attendance records and observing employee performance.
- Provide general facility orientation to all new employees and ongoing in-service education.
- Plan and provide a monthly and annual schedule of planned education programs.
- Ensure Certified Nursing Assistants (CNA)/State Tested Nursing Assistants (STNA) meet the annual 12-hour in-service requirement.
- Actively participate in quality assurance and report concerns to supervisor.
- Provide on-site clinicals for STNA classes (Train the trainer certification).
- Infection Prevention:
- Monitor healthcare-associated infections.
- Assess infection prevention problems and make recommendations for corrective action.
- Initiate, review, and revise infection prevention policies and procedures.
- Conduct outbreak investigations and initiate control measures. Report communicable diseases to the state as required by law.
- Provide educational offerings for orientation and ongoing inservices.
- Consult with department heads and physicians as needed to improve care.
- Initiate follow-up on employee/resident exposures to communicable diseases.
Qualifications:
- 1-3 years of experience in a long-term care setting preferred.
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the state.
- CPR certification.
