Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Sponsored Research Administration Specialist to join our team. As a staff member of Northwestern Sponsored Research (SR), you will play a vital role in supporting the institutional infrastructure that enables our researchers to excel. Your primary responsibility will be to review and ensure the accurate and timely submission of University-wide sponsored research grant proposals for standard and routine activities, as well as more complex submissions such as program project grants.

You will also provide administrative oversight for resulting awards, manage a larger constituency with moderate complexity, and support the Office of Research (OR) mission and values. This includes understanding empathy, modeling accountability, ensuring fairness, embracing community, and valuing creativity.

In this role, you will oversee and ensure accurate and timely submission of University-wide research grant proposals, including multi-school and multi-institutional proposals, and other complex submissions. You will review incoming award terms, flag unusual circumstances internally and externally, maintain fair but firm positions to obtain optimum conditions for the University and Principal Investigators (PIs). Additionally, you will recommend award agreements for university endorsement, serve as a trainer of sponsored research, represent the Office of Sponsored Research (OSR) in meetings, and assume full-level contact with faculty members.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent education and experience
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in the administration of sponsored research at an educational institution, in the federal government, or at another entity engaged in sponsored research

You must possess intermediate knowledge of Federal regulations related to research administration, including Uniform Guidance and RTC terms and conditions, major federal funding agency guidelines, and major sponsor electronic systems such as Grants.gov, Commons, and Research.gov.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • Previous work experience in the administration of sponsored research at an educational institution, in the federal government, or at another entity engaged in sponsored research
Compensation and Benefits

The estimated salary for this position is between $78,000 and $90,000 per year, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
