Director of Higher Education Policy and Grantmaking

Ambitious and results-driven professional sought to drive lasting policy change in higher education through strategic state policy development and grantmaking efforts. The ideal candidate will possess a strong track record in policy development and advocacy, with experience working in or with state government.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and refine a strategy to advance key higher education priorities in targeted states, in collaboration with the Vice President of Higher Education and other members of the Higher Education team.
- Manage a portfolio of state higher education grants aligned with Arnold Ventures' strategy, ensuring effective and efficient use of resources.
- Research, analyze, and draft white papers, fact sheets, and other public-facing materials to support policy and advocacy efforts.
- Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, grantees, and partners in states, fostering a collaborative environment to drive policy change.
- Provide technical assistance to policymakers on areas of Arnold Ventures' policy interest, ensuring informed decision-making.
- Represent Arnold Ventures at conferences, on panels, and with the media, effectively communicating the organization's mission and goals.
- Bachelor's degree in public policy or a related field.
- At least 8 years of relevant work experience, with a successful track record in policy development and advocacy.
- Experience working in or with state government, with a strong understanding of state policy development and implementation.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to craft concrete policy solutions and communicate them effectively to diverse audiences.
- Exceptional strategy development, project management, and organizational skills, with the ability to work simultaneously on multiple projects.
- Strong leadership, people management, and relationship-building skills, with a proven ability to build and maintain coalitions and strategic relationships.
