Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Laboratory Sampler to join our team at CAMC Health System. As a Laboratory Sampler, you will be responsible for performing laboratory support functions and routine quantitative and/or qualitative laboratory analyses for waived and moderate complexity testing.

Responsibilities
  • Specimen Handling and Processing: Label, process, and distribute specimens as required, taking into account pre-analytical considerations of the specimen and the analyte.
  • Testing and Documentation: Utilize written procedures and documentation for the testing of human specimens for specific analytes by manual and instrument-supported methods, with appropriate documentation and entry of the test result into the hospital information system for waived and moderately complexity testing.
  • Result Reporting and Quality Control: Perform the necessary calculations, recording, and reporting of test results for inclusion in department, administrative, and/or patient records, including effective use of the hospital information system for waived and moderately complexity testing.
  • Quality Assurance and Quality Control: Evaluate and ensure that all established quality control and quality assurance criteria are met in performance of laboratory tests, and perform corrective action as necessary or notify appropriate individuals for corrective action before results are issued for waived and moderately complexity testing.
  • Problem Resolution: Recognize, evaluate, and resolve routine factors that affect procedures and results, including pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical issues, with resolution and/or notification of responsible individuals prior to reporting test results with appropriate documentation for waived and moderately complexity testing.
  • Instrument and Equipment Maintenance: Perform and document routine instrument and equipment maintenance, identify and resolve basic instrument and reagent problems, and recognize and prevent malfunctions of instrument and equipment with appropriate documentation for waived and moderately complexity testing.
  • Computer Resources and Quality Improvement: Effectively utilize the hospital information system and other computer resources for evaluation and documentation of quality controls, quality assurance, and test results for waived and moderately complexity testing, and participate in special projects, quality improvement tasks, and projects, workgroups, and committees, and CAP/FDA inspection preparation.
  • Work Environment and Confidentiality: Maintain a clean and safe work area, adequate inventory and supply levels, and observe all biosafety and chemical hygiene protocols, and follow all confidentiality-related regulations and guidelines, protocols, and procedures for patient information.
  • Testing and Certification: Perform waived, moderate, and high complexity testing according to CLIA, and follow laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting, and maintaining records of patient test results for waived and moderately complexity testing.
  • Quality Control and Maintenance: Maintain records that demonstrate that proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient samples for waived and moderately complexity testing, and adhere to the laboratory's quality control policies, document all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations, and maintenance for waived and moderately complexity testing.
  • Performance and Reporting: Follow laboratory's established policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within the laboratory's established levels of performance, and capable of identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and either correct the problems or immediately notify the general supervisor for waived and moderately complexity testing.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Patient Group Knowledge: The employee must possess/obtain (by the end of the orientation period) and demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide developmentally appropriate assessment, treatment, or care as defined by the department's identified patient ages.

Specifically, the employee must be able to demonstrate competency in: 1) ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of patient needs; 2) knowledge of growth and development; and 3) understanding of the range of treatment needed by the patients.

Competency Statement: Must demonstrate competency through an initial orientation and ongoing competency validation to independently perform tasks and additional duties as specified in the job description and the unit/department specific competency checklist.

  • High School Diploma or GED (Required)

  • Post High School Diploma or Certificate Program (Required) Must currently be enrolled in an Accredited Lab Program or meet qualifying education requirements
Credentials
  • Point of Care Tech (Required) within 30 days of hire or possess a Trainee WV license within 30 days of hire or possess a Trainee WV license
