Salary Range: A competitive salary range estimate for this position is $54,166-$109,666.

The posted UC academic salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and/or step at appointment. See the following table for the salary scale for K-12 Teachers based on education and credentialed years of experience, Step A1- E17

Position Description

Position: The Preuss School K-12 Teacher - Middle School Life Science.

The Preuss School at UC San Diego is a charter middle and high school dedicated to providing a rigorous college prep education for low-income scholars who will become the first in their families to graduate from college.

As a department within UC San Diego Academic Affairs, The Preuss School also serves as a model school to study and develop the best practices in preparation of scholars of diverse and underrepresented backgrounds to access higher education.

Under the supervision of the Principal, The Preuss School teachers are focused on the attainment of the California Standards for the teaching profession:

  • Engaging/supporting all students in learning;
  • Creating/maintaining an effective environment;
  • Understanding/organizing subject matter;
  • Planning instruction;
  • Designing learning experiences;
  • Assessing student learning;
  • Developing as professional.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications (required at time of application)
  • Required - Bachelor's degree in Science.
  • Current California Teaching Credential (CTC) – Single Subject Life Science, or the same teaching credential from states that are members of the NASDTEC Interstate Reciprocity Agreements and have signed a reciprocity agreement with California, or a letter confirming that CTC would be obtained by August 1, 2024.
  • English Learner (ELA/ELAS/CLAD/BCLAD equivalent), or California Teaching Credential – Clear Cross-cultural, Language and Academic Development (CLAD) Certificate or equivalent authorization, or equivalent from out-of-state.
