Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Research Project Engineer II to join our team at the University System of New Hampshire. This is a grant-funded position that will support the director of the Coastal Response Research Center (CRRC) and the Center for Spills and Environmental Hazards (CSE) in conducting and overseeing research and evaluation of oil spill response, restoration, and disaster response.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and execute field research projects at the mesocosm and full-scale level, including designing experimental components and procedures.
  • Supervise graduate and undergraduate research assistants in experimental safety, process, and outcomes.
  • Act as liaison for ongoing work with contractors, technicians, and students in the construction of experimental needs and to keep projects on task.
  • Design, construct, maintain, and repair oil research experiments and systems, including installation, maintenance, and repair of monitoring equipment.
  • Collect, record, and manage experimental data and samples, and track, analyze, and report project progress and status to the director and stakeholders.
  • Prepare culminating/outcome reports and detailed experimental guidelines on projects and related operations tasked by the Center from our federal colleagues.
  • Conduct thorough literature reviews as appropriate and coordinate database as appropriate.
  • Classify data and research results to various applicable variables and knowledge of research.
  • Prepare peer-reviewed manuscripts of research data and outcomes, and attend various meetings, workshops, and symposia to present results of research.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in environmental science or engineering, or marine-related major.
  • Computer skills and working knowledge of marine environmental pollution.
  • Experience designing the components of an experiment with detailed specifications, and supervising graduate and undergraduate research assistants.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, and to communicate effectively with colleagues and stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with report writing, environmental studies, and data evaluation, project management.
  • Knowledge of computer programming and ability to design components for experiments.
  • Experience with drones, microscopes, sensors, flowtrackers, thermal cameras, articulating boom, oil handling safety protocols, and sigmaplot and other computer programs to evaluate data collected.
